Better Than Email.
So many of us spend much of our working days writing, reading, or responding to emails. Since Ray Tomlinson sent the first email all the way back in 1971 (51 years ago!), it has become the most common business communication tool.
It is estimated that in 2022 over 333 billion emails are sent every single day. That means about 3.5 million emails are sent every second!
The pain is real
Of course, not all of those 333 billion daily emails are legitimate; it’s estimated that about 85% is spam and 3.4 billion are phishing attempts (emails trying to steal credentials from you or deliver malware to your computer).
Since very few users adopt best practices when it comes to cybersecurity, it’s no surprise that Business Email Compromise happens so frequently. In the last month alone, I have been made aware of 3 local organizations that have had accounts compromised – their credentials were leaked, somehow, and cybercriminals were able to get into their accounts. It’s no wonder, then, that 95% of cyber-attacks come through emails.
And yet, despite all these scary facts, we still (heavily!) use email every day to exchange information with customers, employees, vendors, partners, etc.; and many of those emails also contain a lot of sensitive information: personal data, financial or legal information, contracts, etc.
There must be a better way. There are those who are slowly learning to share documents through links from OneDrive or SharePoint; however, as I mentioned above, Business Email Compromise is a major attack vector, and these file links would be “protected” by the same credentials. It’s the proverbial “six or half a dozen” issue. Also, from a cybersecurity perspective, I see many Microsoft 365 tenants that are very poorly configured when it comes to data and account security, thereby increasing the risk of a data breach.
What is required is a secure, easy-to-use solution to transfer and share sensitive information with external recipients. That’s why I like TagMyDoc so much.
